Topic 10: Articles
An article is a type of determiner used with nouns to indicate whether the noun is specific or general. There are two main types of articles:
1. Definite Article:
- "The" specifies a particular noun that is already known to the reader or listener.
- Example: The book on the table is mine.
2. Indefinite Articles:
- "A" is used before a singular noun that is not specific or is mentioned for the first time. It is used before words starting with a consonant sound.
- Example: I saw a cat in the yard.
- "An"is used before a singular noun that is not specific or is mentioned for the first time. It is used before words starting with a vowel sound.
- Example: She is eating an orange.
Articles help provide context and clarity about the nouns they modify.
